The language of flowers: what to give and what it means

September 5, 2024 7 min read
🌸

The language of flowers (floriography) was born in Victorian England, when expressing feelings in words was frowned upon. The language lives on today — and every bouquet says more than it seems.

Roses. Red for deep love and passion. White for purity, a fresh start, innocence. Pink for admiration and tenderness. Yellow for friendship, joy and warmth. Orange for enthusiasm and desire.

Tulips. Classically a declaration of love. Red tulips say 'I love you' without words. Purple stands for royal respect.

Lilies. White lilies symbolise purity and solemnity, often used at weddings and memorials. Tiger lilies stand for wealth and pride.

Peonies. A symbol of prosperity, good fortune and a happy marriage. An excellent choice for a wedding bouquet or a gift to newlyweds.

When we create a bouquet at FLOW-YVN, we're always ready to help you 'write' the right message in flowers. Just tell us the occasion and the feeling, and we'll compose a bouquet with the right meaning.
